All Debates
You are browsing through all debates. You can refine the results by using the drop-down boxes above. You can view more information about each debate by clicking Show Details at right.
Custom Sides allowed you to create your own stance on the debate that others could then support or create their own, and it worked phenominally well with the analytics. Take a look at these old debates and how well the system worked for them.

This is the Fifty-First in an ongoing series of spotlight debates. The purpose of the debate is to "roast" the user (and when I say "roast", I mean in a nice way). Please share all the good, humorous, and otherwise positive aspects about this important user of our community. Don't worry, I will be creating one of these every few days so your name may show up next!

When revisiting debates that I've viewed in the past, such as debates I'vecreated where new arguments have been added, there is no easy way to seewhat arguments have been posted since the last time I looked at the debateother than sorting by date, but then I lose the context of the argument. Here is a proposed solution. If you could store the date that we last viewedeach debate in the database, the next time we view that debate you couldhighlight any arguments that have been added since that date.
Hell yeah!
We should be able to up/down-vote debates themselves... and that should help determime how long it stays on the front page... or at least on one section of the front page, that way when some idiot troll, or advert trolls start spamming, the community can DV and make the debate go away.
It would be nice if there was a page that listed the demographics of the users of CreateDebate, like what percentage of them are christian, atheist, democrat, republican, etc.
Currently I only get notified of new activity in debates that I create. It would be nice if I could tag debates that other people have created as favorites and be notified when there is new activity in those debates.
When argument theads get too deep you can't indent them anymore so it becomes difficult to tell which responses go to which arguments if more than one person responds. When the indentation gets too deep, just start the next response back over on the left, but display some kind of indicator like this . For example, currently deep threads look like this
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
I propose you make them look like this...
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Bla bla bla bla bla blabity bla
Add a way to ban certain users from ALL of my debates, so I don't have to do it for each debate. This would make it easier to handle trolls, because everyone can just permanently ban the trolls from all their debates.
When there is "new argument activity" once I click on "Jump to debate" it removes it from my "New Argument Activity" list. Sometimes I want to view the argument activity, but don't have time to respond right away. It would be nice if could add another link that doesn't clear it from the notifications area. Maybe "Jump to Debate" and "Jump to Debate & Clear Notification"
Right now I have to right click on the "Jump to Debate" link, copy the link address, paste it into the browser's address box and remove the "comment#arg123456" from the end of the address. It's a real pain.
Okay, I know Andy hasn't heard this before but why can't we post pictures/gifs on arguments? We can post videos so it doesn't make any sense.
The site in general needs to be more media friendly. Come on Andy... can you imagine what Joe could do?
Hmm...
I'd like a better way to quote people. I debate by breaking down the post I am replying to bit by bit and use the "bold" function to show the difference between the quote and my own response. I'd like a better system, perhaps an actual quote box (which can be used multiple times in one post). But sometimes it's really inconvenient because I then have an even more limited method of defining what I want to stand out in my post. I either must resort to "CAPS" or italics, and depending on the context of the debate, it doesn't work very well.
I am a bit familiar with this function on sites like the myspace forums (when they were good) and proboards. They use UBBC/BBCode to make quote boxes and font decorations (bold, italic, underline, etc).
